Exercises to Do in a Pool

exercise in a pool

Exercises to do in a pool (that aren’t swimming).

Turn going to the swimming pool into a full body workout with these simple toning exercises. The resistance of the water pushes the muscles to work harder, and increases the cardio intensity without putting as much strain on your joints.

It’s a great way to burn fat and is basically much more fun than going to the gym!

1. The propelled V
Sit back into the water and tread with your hands by your sides. Lift both legs up from the hips, so your body is folded into a v with your toes just peering out of the water.

Now moving your hands in small circles, propel yourself forward down the pool for 30 seconds. This will work out your arms, hips and abs.

2. The tidal wave
Not ideal for busy times in the pool – this splashing exercise will tone your bum and legs.

At the edge of the pool, hold on with one hand and use the other one flat against the wall of the pool underwater – fingers pointing towards the floor.

Extend your legs behind you, keeping your legs and feet together, kick in a wave pattern. Start in your abs and hips then roll down to your feet. Do as many as you can in 30 seconds, building up to 60 seconds with practice.

3. I’m Spiderman
Defy gravity and climb the pool wall. Stabilize your upper body with your hands in the water and then run your legs up the side of the pool and back to the floor again. Do this five times.

Kim Kardashian also Believe in Acupuncture Treatment

Last week, she showed off the results of a scary blood facial, but now Kim Kardashian has moved on to needles with a session of acupuncture.

The pregnant reality star put this very close up snap of her face on Instagram with the caption “Oh, so relaxing!” Errrm okay then.

Traditionally used in Chinese practice, acupuncture is designed to stimulate specific points in the face and body to correct imbalances in the flow of ‘Qi’ through channels known as meridians. Lots of people use these tiny needles for back and joint pain, while others use them for banishing nausea and stress.

Perhaps Kimmie is having a problem with morning sickness?

Now she’s five months pregnant, Kim is obviously turning to alternative medicine to treat her symptoms.

Other experts suggest acupuncture is a good alternative for women who don’t want a surgical face lift. The theory suggests that needles can stimulate collagen and elastin production making the skin look younger and firmer.

Do you swear by acupuncture?

Four Anti-inflammatory Foods

Four anti-inflammatory foods you should be eating

While inflammation is the body’s natural response to injury, chronic inflammation can lead to health problems — but here are four anti-inflammatory foods that can help minimize the damaging effects.
“The inflammation process has one goal: to respond immediately to detect and destroy the toxic material in damaged tissues before it can spread throughout the body,” said Dr. Lauren Whitt of the University of Alabama in a March 22 release from the university. “The trouble with inflammation occurs when the defense system gets out-of-control and begins to destroy healthy tissue, causing more damage than the original issue.”

Being overweight is known to increase inflammation in the body, which researchers say can lead to increased risks of heart attack or stroke. Prior research from Johns Hopkins University (November 2012) in the US has found that low-fat and low-carbohydrate diets can reduce inflammation.

Whitt added that the right anti-inflammatory foods are one way of targeting the problem. Here are a few items to consider adding to your shopping list:

• Citrus fruits — vitamin C and vitamin E are essential antioxidants
• Dark, leafy greens –high in vitamin K
• Tomatoes — the fruit’s red pigment, lycopene, is a potent antioxidant
• Wild-caught salmon — contains a rich concentration of omega-3 fatty acids

“Eating to minimize inflammation doesn’t have to be an overwhelming task,” she said. “Take baby steps by incorporating leafy greens into a salad at lunch, or add a piece of whole fruit to your breakfast.”

In addition, Whitt recommended eating more foods straight from the farm, as well as fewer processed and fried foods. Doing so may reduce the need for some medications, she said.

People “are constantly on the lookout for a quick-fix, so when our immune systems kick into overdrive, we would generally prefer to pop a pill and keep moving,” Whitt added. “But if we focus on our diets, we can alleviate the need for the anti-inflammatory medications in many cases.”
